These will break Wizpig's spell and unlock course doors, allowing you to race for more balloons and access other areas. The game's free-roaming, non-linear structure ensures that, while the secrets of some courses will remain sealed until later in the game, you will never find yourself limited to a single track on which to race or in a single area to explore.

As you race - in karts, hovercrafts and planes - try and collect the balloons you find on the courses to collect power-ups. You can only collect one colour of balloon at a time, but you can collect up to three at a time to create weapons that are more powerful. There are multiplayer modes too, courtesy of the DS's Wi-Fi and local wireless facility, something that massively extends Diddy Kong Racing's longevity.
